What Is A Nicotine Shot?
A nicotine shot is a flavourless 10ml eliquid designed to be added to a shortfill to create a larger volume of nicotine containing eliquid. For example, adding an 18mg nic shot to a 50ml shortfill will create 60ml of 3mg eliquid. Although they can be vaped on their own, the only flavour will be that of the nicotine and they may be rather peppery and not particularly palatable. They are also very popular among the DIY mixing community, as it is the only legal way to add nicotine into your homemade juices.
What Nic Shot Strength Should I Use?
With the growth in popularity of shortfills and subsequently nic shots, there's a wide range on offer. You may be wondering which one you should use with your shortfill of choice. To start with you should look at what you want your eliquid's nicotine strength to be.
Generally, shortfills and nic shots are most commonly used to create 3mg e-liquid. This is very easy to do, just add an 18mg shot to a 50ml shortfill (or, two 18mg shots to a 100ml shortfill) and mix thoroughly.
Though 18mg shots may be the most common, there are different strength shots available giving you the option to experiment. A 15mg shot added to a 50ml shortfill will create a 2.5mg eliquid, and a 9mg shot would result in a 1.5mg eliquid. These lower strength shots are a good choice if you're looking to experience more flavour but less nicotine from your eliquid. We recommend you take a look at our shortfill calculator for more info on how to mix your preferred nic strength.
It's important to remember that due to limitations on nic shot strengths you'll not be able to mix anything stronger than 6mg in most cases. If you're looking for a higher strength we recommend a 10ml eliquid which already has nicotine mixed in.
What Are The Different Types Of Nicotine Shot?
Outside of nicotine strength, you should also consider the type of nicotine that features in your shot. The two most common are freebase and nic salt. Freebase nic shots when added will create an e-liquid with a more noticeable throat hit. If you're looking for a smoother vape overall, then we recommend a nic salt shot. Not only does nic salt provide a smoother hit it is also absorbed faster to satisfy cravings quickly.
What VG/PG Ratios Are Nic Shots Available In?
Nicotine shots are available in a range of VG/PG ratios. This means that not only can you find a shot that features your ideal nicotine strength, but also one that matches the VG concentration of your particular shortfill. To suit the majority of shortfills, most nic shots are 70% VG. Though you will find some in 60% VG and 50/50 nic shots - so there's an option for every type of eliquid.
