As much as we'd all like to claim we are perfect, occasionally mistakes do happen - we're all human after all.
Vape Club was formed in 2012, back when the most popular product on the market was still the humble cig-a-like. In fact that's the first vaping product we sold - our very own brand of first gen e-cigarettes and all the accessories. The biggest USP being that you could order your cartomisers on subscription to take away the hassle of re-ordering. That's where the 'club' idea came from.
However vaping technology evolved very quickly and just a year later our focus began to shift to the open system ego style devices and the refill eliquids, with the early mods soon joining the fold.
And then we discovered US ejuice... In late 2013 California was definitely the eliquid capital of the world, producing beautifully crafted, complex flavours which were perfect for the ever improving open systems. And that's where the birth of Vape Club as we know it now began.
Vape Club became the one stop shop for all the best vaping products from around the world. We systematically gathered the best juice brands, the best hardware, the best batteries and accessories from all corners of the globe, and made it simple, fast, and a pleasant experience for UK vapers to purchase them.
In 2016 Vape Club helped to form the UK Vaping Industry Association.
At the heart of Vape Club there are 3 owners, each of whom are former smokers who were able to kick the habit by vaping.
One of the founders of Vape Club, Charles is a serial entrepreneur and Angel Investor with 30 years of business development experience across a wide range of industries.
A smoker himself at the time, he was blown away when he saw his first ecig back in 2008, and having experienced the terrible loss of a loved one due to smoking related illness he embraced the products from the get go, and put down the fags without a second thought.
This led Charles on to be one of the early pioneers of ecigarettes in the UK, originally entering the industry in 2009 with the first generation cig-a-like products.
Having worked with one of the other directors (Vlad) on previous eCommerce projects, they decided in 2012 that they would try to fill an ever emerging gap in the online market for vaping products - and thus Vape Club was born.
Vlad, the other founder, is our eCommerce and tech guru! With over 18 years of experience in online publishing and retail he has been a director of 20+ ecommerce businesses - there really isn't much he doesn't know about the online world of retail.
Vlad's introduction to ecigs was also back in 2008, where he was one of the first online retailers to stock the early cig-a-likes. He remembers 'they weren't popular products back then, and many people didn't really understand the harm reduction benefits, but I saw the potential straight away and wanted to put them in front of smokers as much as possible'.
So a few years later, when Charles proposed they work together to create an online vaping platform, he jumped at the chance. Having used the products to stop smoking himself he knew that they had a bright future ahead.
With a massive focus on innovation and user experience Vlad is the man behind our famous e-liquid explorer - the industry's most comprehensive and versatile tool to guide the customer through the thousands of different eliquids available and find the products that they really want, filtering out anything that is not relevant to them.
With a varied background spanning the music industry to market research, Dan joined the original two directors in 2013, where initially he came on board to work on the online marketing and the day to day running of the business. However, as a 30 a day smoker he soon became fascinated by the products, using them to wean himself off the combustibles altogether.
Through his own journey to quit smoking Dan became obsessed by the science behind vaping and a passionate evangelist for the harm reduction they offer. After seeing so many mistruths and junk-science stories in the media he threw himself in to the politics and advocacy side of the industry, determined to change the narrative and champion the positive benefits of vaping. And we think he's done a pretty good job!
